EBT 402 Tutorials [Corrosion Engineering]

1. Write the chemical equation for corrosion of zinc in sulphuric acid.

2. What is the electrolyte in high temperature oxidation?

3. Name of reducing environment and materials that can resist attack in such an environment.

4. Name of oxidation environment and materials that is resistant to that environment.

Corrosion Engineering......the introduction.

Many student, corrosion means rust. Rust is one of corrosion product. However, the simple definition of corrosion is deterioration of metals or its properties because of reaction with its environment. May be, the corrosion deterioration is a weight gain; or is weight reduction; or the mechanical properties are affected. Majority are gave opinion that corrosion process are electrochemical in nature.

Why is corrosion prevention important? Corrosion engineer is concern with, example, a machine that sees ni chemical and spends its life in a controlled indoor environment, engineer may ignore all corrosion consideration in design. This can be unwise. Almost all environments can cause corrosion. Normal atmosphere can rust steels. Sometimes, small amount of corrosion product will affect serviceability.

In service a machine will be dripping with oils, chances are corrosion may not occur; but if parts in a machine or device are to be unlubricated in service, it may be wise to use corrosion prevention measures in every part where surface damage or property deterioration could affect serviceability.

Strength of Materials

What is EBT 103 Strength of Materials in UniMAPs.

Student will be explored the application of basic mechanical engineering in materials field. EBT 103 is four credit hours need the fundamental application of force and moment in materials design. This course included introduction of strength materials, force, static, type of loading like torsion, bending, normal, distribution loading and etc. The application and calculation of these loading known as stress also introduced especially in term bending moment, beam design and analysis, combined loading and connection.

This lecturer will be given by Dr Mohd Nazree and Mr. Nazry Salleh. The Vocational Trainer Officer Mr Azmi Kamardin and Ms. Noor MariaMadliza Mohd Naan will be conducted the laboratory training. This course included lecturer, tutorials and laboratory. The evaluation of this course included 5o percent in final exam and 50 percent coursework. The coursework evaluations include mid-semester test, laboratory test, assignment or tutorial and laboratory report.

This course is totally compulsory to student because it is core course for materials and metallurgical engineering in Universiti Malaysia Perlis. Student must achieve at least C+ in overall test. So, I hope my student can achieve the optimum performance in this course.

EBT 103 Strenght of Materials

Hello Materials and Metallurgical student 2008/2009 School of Materials Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis

Welcome to Universiti Malaysia Perlis.
Before we start our class, let's me give the introduction EBT 103 strength of Materials.

EBT 103 are 4 unit of credit hours subject. This subject include lecture, tutorial and laboratory. This subject is core subject which mean, it very important to you all to score at above C+. The staff who will give lecturer and conduct laboratory are En. Nazry Salleh, Noor Mariamadzliza Mohd Naan, Azmi Kamardin and me.

Please take attention of course outcome:

CO1: Able to apply basic concept strength of materials
CO2: Understand the materials behaviors when different mode of applied loading.

CO3. Students are able to practically test the material using mechanical testing.
